The Salzburg-Reichenhall Gosau basin and its Neogene-Quaternary cover: formation mechanisms, facies and structural analysis

Guide: Franz Neubauer

Based on new data, the excursion provides an integrated overview on the pull-apart-type formation of the Salzburg-Reichenhall Gosau basin and the reactivation of its boundaries, the sedimentary environment and provenance. Further highlights are the discovery of a Neogene conglomerate with exclusively metamorphic components suggesting far-distant transport, the provenance and deformation structures of Quaternary conglomerates, the later allowing to redefine the landscape evolution and Quaternary kinematics of northern parts in Eastern Alps.
